Much like we pack up our sweaters and long underwear as the temps start to warm, the Trailside Lounge and Grill in Meadowlands have shelved some of their heartier fare, and added summer flavors to their new menu that debuted on July 1.
“Our customers love the menu, so it’s hard to change anything, but adding new items keeps it interesting and the customers coming back”, explains owner, Jodi Gaul. “Every so often we redo the menu, new design, new items.” When the only restaurant in our small town changes its menu, it’s big news!
At home, when you’re in charge of dinner, every night…, it always seems there’s nothing “good” to eat, even when the fridge and cupboards are full. When you eat out it all sounds so good making it hard to choose what to order. Checking out the new Trailside items, that’s sure to be the case. How does one choose between: A pair of wraps like the new BBQ Chicken Wrap with its char grilled deliciousness smothered in house made BBQ and tucked into a tortilla with cheddar, bacon and fried onions, or the Blazing Buffalo that takes your choice of deep-fried shrimp or chicken tenders and tosses them in buffalo sauce with cabbage, bleu cheese, lettuce, and tomato – this Po’Boy-esque wrap doesn’t stand a chance when the guys around here get ahold of it!
Or, if you prefer your bird on a bun, the Red Rooster and Chicken Caesar Sandwiches are worth squawking about. The Red Rooster stacks char grilled chicken with buffalo sauce, pepper jack, bacon, lettuce and tomato, while the Chicken Caesar puts all the flavors of the popular salad on a bun.
You can keep it light with the new Chicken Pecan Salad, tossing crispy or grilled chicken with mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, praline pecans, bleu cheese and romaine served with ranch dressing for an irresistibly flavorful bite.
They’ve got date night covered too, with the addition of Shrimp Alfredo, or bring the whole family for home made pizza, including “The Dagwood” created by the owner’s brother, Dave Fosness. The one-of-a-kind pie layers sweet chili sauce, pepper jack, mozzarella, chicken tender bites, red pepper, red onion and pineapple for serious knock your flip-flops off flavor.
Regulars need not worry, Jodi’s kept the favorites on the menu, like their popular Roundhouse Steak Sandwich, Trailside Nachos with handcut chips and the Bacon Bleu. “That was my dad’s all-time favorite,” Jodi shares. “He’d order it almost every time and I’d say “Oh I see you’re trying something new, Dad!” He’d just chuckle and say “It’s just so damn good”.
Located across from the Meadowlands Community Center and Park, the Trailside is family-owned and family-friendly. As a busy (or perhaps occasionally lazy) mom, I love having a nice dining option minutes from home. So when the weather guy says the high will be over 76 degrees (aka too hot to cook in doors), I may “forget” to grab something to grill out of the freezer to create the perfect circumstances for a trip to the “T-side”. I hear it’s supposed to be warm this week, maybe you’ll see us there trying some of the new items!
The Trailside Lounge and Grill offers steak specials every Friday and Saturday, and Fall-off-the-bone BBQ Ribs the last Saturday of each month, reservations are a must 427-2773.
Come for Karaoke the first and last Saturday of the month and mark your calendar for The Adjustments, performing during the Meadowlands Fair Street Dance August 16 and a live DJ in the street, Sunday, August 17.
